Senator Tester is taking aim at the Obama Administration over gun regulations. In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, Tester stated the proposed new gun regulations would harm Montana hunters, shooters and specifically gun smiths.
The Directorate of Defense Trade Controls or the DDTC, issued guidance to clarify when a gunsmith is required to register under the "International Traffic and Arms Regulations". The problem Sen.Tester sees is these regulations come with a registration fee of almost $2300 for Montana's small businesses. He says: "we have concerns with the potential impact of additional fees on small gun-smithing businesses through DDTC...when one takes into account that many of these small businesses are not exporting these goods... Thus not requiring any of DDTC's resources." Tester, along with 4 other Senators, also asked the administration to transfer the export licensing of "commercial and sporting firearms and ammunition products" to the Commerce Department.
