The C.M. Russell volleyball team is three games into their season. After a win Monday over Big Sky in straight sets, the Rustlers hold a 2-1 record on the young season.
At Wednesday's practice the ladies said they felt pretty good about how the season has gone to this point. But there is an elephant in the room. C.M.R. hasn't won a state title since 2000.
After the team missed last year's state playoffs, they're eager to get back. To stay on the right track they'll have to beat a tough, young Sentinel team, Saturday.
Head coach Theresa Besich said the team is in good hands if they clean up their mistakes from previous games and come out with a high level of intensity from the get-go.
"[We need to make] sure we go in there with minimal errors again, but also [set] the tone and the pace of the game quickly," she said.
Senior hitter Camryn Beck added "a lot of us have more experience than the younger team, so hopefully our skill and experience in the past will help us overcome and excel in that form."
C.M.R's next matchup will be on the road, Saturday, at 1 pm.
