A Montana resident has died after complications from west nile virus. The details were released today by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, as well as the McCone County Health Department, where the victim lived.
State officials say the victim had not traveled outside of the state in the past month, and that the infection was caught locally in McCone county.
Including this one, there have been 6cases of West Nile virus reported in Montana so far this year.
In general, 4 out of 5 people infected will experience no symptoms and become immune to the virus. But DPHHS Director Richard Opper says in light of this death, it's a good reminder to take the virus seriously and take necessary precautions against mosquitos.
