The Belt Huskies volleyball team is off to a perfect start this season, as the ladies hold a 2-0 record. They hope to make it a perfect 3-0 Thursday against Highwood/Geraldine.
The Huskies were back at practice Tuesday to get their work in before the big matchup. The girls have really come together since a loss in last year's state tournament final. That loss might have actually been a blessing in disguise for this year's squad because it taught them how to be resilient and how to fight through adversity all the way until the end. That's a trait the team said they will put to use against a tough Rivals opponent.
"We're just going to go in there expecting them to push us," said head coach Christine Gondeiro. "We're going to work on our defense, our offense, stuff like that, and kind of adjust on the fly."
Senior libero Alison Stoker added "[Highwood/Geraldine is] a great team. They have a lot of good players every year but I don't think we necessarily need to think about that we just need to play our game and work hard."
As for that match up, the Huskies are on the road for this one. Thursday's game starts at 7 p.m.
