The Capital High Soccer program continued preparation for their crosstown matchup against Helena High on Sept. 6 at Northwest Park.
The Capital girls are 1-1 so far this season. The Bruins lost their first game against Glacier 2-1 before rebounding against Flathead with a 5-0 win.
“Beating a high powered team like Helena High,” first-year head coach Lindsey Gilstrap said, “especially coming off a state championship would really be a boost of confidence.”
The Bruin boys come in undefeated. They won their first match against Glacier 2-1 and followed the victory up with 1-0 win over Flathead.
Second-year head coach Paul Patterson had an interesting take on the crosstown rivalry.
“I think sometime the players make more of it and maybe some of the coaches,” Patterson said. “It’s not so much a kid thing because after the game there’s hugs and how-are-yous and hanging out together.”
The girls’ match between Capital and Helena is Wednesday at 3:30 pm and the boys’ game follows at 5:30 pm. Both matches are at Nelson Stadium on the campus of Carroll College.
