It's that time of the year again when crosstown rivalry soccer games invade the Electric City. Both the boys and girls teams from Great Falls High and C.M. Russell want to show their rival who runs the town.
The Bison boys were out at practice Tuesday to fine tune their game plan before Wednesday's matchup. Some of the players say despite having friends over at C.M.R., when both teams hit the pitch it's game time. One player even took off his yellow practice jersey, C.M.R. colors, and threw it on the ground in disgust to reveal his Bison blue underneath. That's the type of attitude Great Falls will need if they want to come out on top.
"They're going to play really hard, but we're going to give it right back to them," said Bison senior defender and midfielder, Jack Anderegg. "It's going to be a close game."
Bison head coach Steve Groshelle added "I know they're going to be going as hard as they can. This isn't just a fun little scrimmage. They're going to be going hard at it so they can beat their friends and have bragging rights. Even though they're friends off the field they want to show [up] and say 'hey, we beat you this time.'"
C.M.R. will be the home team in both games, Thursday. The girls start first at 3 p.m. followed by the boys at 5 p.m. Both games will be at Great Falls Soccer Park.
