Bison Football Addresses Special Teams Miscues

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls High Bison football team was out at practice Tuesday afternoon to clean things up ahead of their big game against Helena High this Friday.

The Bison have lost three games this season by a combined five points. Head coach Mark Samson said the losses are mainly due to mistakes on special teams. To address the problem, the Bison held a private meeting before Tuesday's practice to fix those special teams errors and make sure it doesn't do them in against the Bengals.

"[We need to] eliminate the big plays," said defensive back Kody Torgerson. "We've given up too many big plays. That's how teams have been scoring. It's not the three and four yard plays it's the 40 and 50 yard plays [we need to stop]."

His coach added "if you look at where we've made mistakes [on special teams] it's typically been a breakdown in blocking or something," Samson said. "It's a technique thing we can work on."

The Bison will find out if their meeting helps their play Friday at 7 p.m. when they face Helena High at Memorial Stadium.
