Carroll volleyball earns automatic bye to national tournament
The Carroll volleyball team earned an automatic berth to the 37th Annual NAIA National Volleyball Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa beginning Nov. 29th.
After capturing the conference title on Nov. 12, the team waited to see if they earned a top-20 ranking in the NAIA 2016 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll final rankings. The coaches voted the Frontier conference champs 18th nationally securing the berth.
Their rank allows them to bypass the opening round of the tournament – where 24 teams compete with the higher seed serving as the host site and the 12 winners advancing to Sioux City – scheduled for Nov. 19.
The 12 winners from the first round of games join the 20 teams that earned byes at the National Tournament site starting on Nov.29. The 32 teams are grouped in fours and play round robin – minimum three games – to determine the top two teams from each pool that advance to the round of 16.
This is the third time the program qualified for National Tournament. The last time was in 2012.
