Jefferson Wrestling Program Has State Tournament on Mind

Posted: Updated:

The Jefferson wrestling team continues their push to qualify as many wrestlers as possible for the state tournament. Coach Tony Humprey has 19 boys on the squad, which is up from 12 a year ago. They are a young team with no seniors on the roster. They finished 14th at the Cascade Tournament, but had three wrestlers place at the tournament.

"A wrestling team is a very important thing," said junior wrestler Nate Brunette. "I know wrestling is an individual thing you go on the mat and it's just you against the other guy but a team matters a lot team's a big deal."

"Because we get to practice moves that we wouldn't get to do during a match because we are wrestling harder people and we want to win," said junior wrestler Nathan Rash.
