To say it's been a whirlwind for first-year Lady Griz head coach Shannon Schweyen would be an understatement. After losing over 2,000 points and 1,300 rebounds of production from your only three upperclassmen due to injury, the Lady Griz have stumbled out of the gates a bit with a 3-6 record, but it has opened the door for younger players like redshirt freshman from Hamilton Taylor Goligoski who leads the team in points at 12 per game. Meanwhile, the redshirt freshman from Capital Mckenzie Johnston is second in scoring and leads the team in assists. The team hopes to get better as the season goes along and their next test will be against Wyoming who's led by former Sentinel star Olivia Roberts.
"We've got to do a good job whether we are in man or zone getting to their shooters, and not letting them post us and get a lot of easy ones around the bucket, they have two 6'2 scorers, along with olivia roberts form here in Missoula," said Coach Schweyen.
"You know, Liv and I still talk almost daily whether that's through texting or Snapchat or phone calls. With both of us being collegiate athletes, we have so much in common and so much to confide in. I look at Liv as more of a sister more than anything else," said former Sentinel teammate Maddie Keast. "I mean I can't wait, regardless of the game I am just excited to have her here and have her back in Missoula."
