Skornogoski named new school board member

Posted: Updated:

After the abrupt resignation of Don Ryan last month, the vacant seat left on the Great Falls School Board has been filled by United Way's Marketing Director Kim Skornogoski.

Ryan left the position after a disagreement over what two of the schools should be named, leaving the seat available.  Skornogoski was selected among 6 candidates vying for the position.

In a statement to KFBB, chair board member Jan Cahill says, "I and my fellow trustees are looking very much forward to her input...and her vision to make Great Falls Public Schools even better."

Cahill says Skornogoski would traditionally be sworn in at the upcoming regular board meeting on November 27th, but should she choose, she can be sworn in before that date. Skornogoski's position is good through the upcoming board election in May 2018, when she will then have to formally run to fulfill Ryan's remaining two years as a board member. Cahill says there are nine regular board meetings before May's election, of which Skornogoski will participate in.
