UPDATE: Escaped bear located

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Greg Lemon, with Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks says they have located the bear that escaped. Right now, they have not captured the animal but will let the public know when they do.

A 3 to 4-year-old female black bear has escaped from Montana Wildlife Center overnight.

Greg Lemon with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks tells KFBB the bear was brought to the rehabilitation center after a run in with a porcupine in February.

For the last 2 months, FWP has been working with the bear and hoping to release her back into the wild soon.

"We rehab black bears all the time, however, we take care in the fact to not get them habituated to humans," said Lemon.

He added this 60 lb bear, in particular, is very skittish.  She has a green ear tag and FWP along with Animal Control are currently out looking for her.

If you see the bear, DO NOT APPROACH, instead call FWP at 406-444-2535 or Montana Wild at 444-9944
