Multiple roads washed away in Lincoln

Posted: Updated:

Flooding has been affecting the city of Lincoln for some time now. Roads like Dalton Mountain Road, Herrin Lake Road, and Stemple Pass Road all have at least one section on them being washed away by the flooding.

“This is the worst it has been in 20 years.  it happened again about 5 years ago but this is by far the worst,” said Barney Martinez.

For residents like Martinez, their only way in and out of their home is flooded. Unfortunately for people like him, the roads leading to town are slowly being eroded away.

“We just worry that's the only way out. Down toward Dalton mountain road, that is flooded. Stemple pass, that’s flooded. So we just worry about that,” said Martinez.

For Fire Chief Muse, he says the recent weather has helped slow down how fast the snowpack melts, giving him a chance to survey the damage as water levels continue to rise.

“It cooled down yesterday and today obviously so that slowed it down quite a bit. That rain last night hurt us, but we didn’t get as much as they were predicting,” said Zach Muse.

Muse has been out taking account of the water levels for a couple days now.
But since this morning, it's been rising steadily so he asks everyone to be extremely careful.

“You know 4 inches of running water can sweep a car away. And it's not just the running water but the instability of the ground underneath that water that could be moving or collapsing off into the ditch,” said Muse.

The Lincoln Fire Chief says if you do need help because of flooding. Don’t hesitate to call at 465 7691.
