Bear Safety Meeting at Fort Benton

FORT BENTON- With hiking season in full swing, FWP bear management specialist, Wesley Sarmento is giving bear safety tips tonight at Fort Benton's public meeting tonight, June 13 at 7 p.m.

Sarmento will explain what to do if a bear approaches you, how to use bear spray, protecting harvested game meat, how to safely fend off a bear using non-lethal tools, securing attractants, and preventing a bear from being drawn into residences. 

The discussion will also cover the Prairie grizzly bears expansion on the prairie east of the Rocky Mountain Front, and their management by Fish, Wildlife and Parks. 

The meeting will be at the Fort Benton Elementary School auditorium, 1406 Franklin St. The meeting is free.
