Two booked on homicide charges in Missoula

MISSOULA -

Two people are being held in the Missoula County Jail on homicide charges after an incident Monday evening. 

Christopher Lance Newrider, 31, and Valerie Kandais Thompson, 32, were booked in jail early Tuesday morning. They're both being held in jail on homicide and assault with a weapon charges. Newrider is also being held on a probation violation. 

Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said officers responded to the 1800 block of Sherwood Street in Missoula around 7:00 p.m. Monday. Welsh said officers found a man had been stabbed multiple times. While Newrider and Thompson are being held on homicide charges, police expect the victim will survive his injuries.

Welsh said Newrider and Thompson were at large for some time before police apprehended them.

Missoula 911 sent a text alert to some residents around 8:30 p.m. Monday warning of a 31-year-old male, involved in an assault, who was said to be armed and dangerous.
