"Make A Sober Decision": MANG campaign preventing drunk driving

Posted: Updated:

GREAT FALLS- Montana has been named the state with the most ineffective drunk driving laws according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

But now Montana Air National Guard is being proactive in making sure that culture changes with a campaign called, "Make A Sober Decision".

This morning, airmen saw the pain, suffering, and consequences that happen when someone decides to drink and drive. A reenactment walked airman through five possible scenarios leaving them teary-eyed in the end.

While even making some airmen question their own everyday practices when it comes to drinking and driving. Joe Lienhard who’s a MANG airman and played the actor of a drunk driver in today’s reenactment is one example of how this campaign is already making a difference.

"This really made me rethink how my life and my family, and how we handle things. I mean, it's really easy to have a drink at dinner and think nothing of it, and we're probably going to start making different plans," said Lienhard.

Judge Debra Kim Christopher with the Twentieth Judicial District of Montana said most people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, do it about 100 times before they're actually caught and arrested for a DUI.

Your decisions have a ripple effect on the people around you. MANG said this campaign makes sure people not only on base, but off-base understand how just one decision can put you behind bars for the rest of your life.
