Horseshoe Fire in SW Montana destroys structures

Posted: Updated:
THREE FORKS -

A quick moving wildfire in Southwest Montana destroyed structures in the area.

The Horseshoe Fire is estimated at 2,000 acres and is zero percent contained. It's burning in Clarkston, east of Three Forks in Gallatin County.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office said several structures have been burned, but firefighters were able to save others. The sheriff's office does not have information on the number or type of structures that were destroyed.

Residents in the area believed at least one home was lost in the fire.

"We know of one family with an infant that got burnt down," said  Clarkston resident Katie Gonsalves. "We went and bought diapers, toothbrushes and a bunch of supplies, we went through all our clothes and donated whatever we could."

There are no evacuation orders in place at this time.

Federal, state and local resources are responding to the fire.

A DNRC County Assist team will take over fire management Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
