Woman charged with flinging feces at officer in drug-fueled rage

Posted: Updated:
GREAT FALLS -

Police say a woman in a drug-fueled rage flung feces at an officer last week and is now facing charges.

On September 24, 2018, Great Falls Police Officers responded to a residence on 19th Avenue South after a caller claimed Joanne Katzenberger was extremely high on narcotics inside her home and a man was sitting outside in the passenger seat of a white car.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the man in the car who told them Katzenberger was high on methamphetamine and was driving like a "maniac" at speeds up to 100 miles an hour.

GFPD spoke with Katzenberger who said she had injected a "quarter" of methamphetamine into her arm. A small baggie of meth was found in her purse. She then asked for medical assistance, but when the ambulance arrived, she became irate and told officers she had drugs in her anus.

Court documents say Katzenberger climbed into the bathtub and began digging into her anus, causing it to bleed. When she got out of the bathtub, she was holding something brown in her bloody hand, saying it was heroin. She then threw the brown thing in her hand at the officer, almost hitting him in the face, effectively splattering him with blood. The brown object she threw was later determined to be feces.

Katzenberger was placed under arrest but didn't go without a fight. She began violently kicking at officers, hitting one in the chest. Court documents say she banged her head against a wall and asphalt throughout the incident. Katzenberger began spraying the blood in her mouth at officers, three of whom had to seek medical attention for the blood exposure. She also sprayed a medical staff member in the face with blood, who also had to seek treatment.

Katzenberger has a prior conviction for felony Criminal Possession of Dangerous Drugs and Assault on a Peace Officer. She is now facing one count of Criminal Possession of Dangerous Drugs, one count of Assault on a Peace Officer or Judicial Officer, one count of Resisting Arrest, two counts of Assault with a Bodily Fluid, one count of Assault, and one count of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

The State has requested her bond be set in the amount of $15,000.

KFBB is receiving reports that a presidential plane has landed in Great Falls at the Montana Air National Guard. It is unclear what exactly the plane is doing at MANG, although it is suspected the plane could be apart of the President's fleet and there wasn't room at the Missoula International Airport for the entire fleet to land.  Our Ricky Blackburn is currently on the scene at the airport, and is working to bring us more information as it becomes available.
