Vaughn Fire & Rescue Volunteer Fire Department honoring fallen firefighters

GREAT FALLS- Today you may have noticed fire department's around town having their flag at half-staff. This is because every first weekend of October firefighters across the United States ring a bell at 10 a.m. EST symbolizing those who've fallen while in the line of duty.

Every year all of the firefighter line of duty deaths are reported into Emmitsburg, Maryland where the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Service is held. Vaughn Fire & Rescue Volunteer Fire Department held their own memorial this morning.

"The brotherhood. The fact that we work together as a team. That we're there on any call for any given reason that we work to serve our community. Our selfless sacrifice is to ensure that this community goes to bed at safe and at peace, and at any point and time can call us knowing that there is going to be somebody there to help,” said Michelle Payne the Safety Officer at Vaughn Fire & Rescue Volunteer Fire Department.

Vaughn Fire & Rescue VFD said they recognized and honored not only firefighters in our country but also locally including Tommy Martin, the Black Eagle Fire Chief who passed away in 2017.
