Bob's 36

What should have been my first car

I am 73 years old being born in 1936, the same year this car was made. When i was 14 and living in Kingman Az, I had a choice between a 36 ford just like this one and a 2 tone gray 34 ford, for my first car. My dad wanted me to take the 36 but is was real quiet and the 34 had loud pipes so i chose the 34. Dad was disappointed.
Many many years later in 1957 I bought this car in St Regis Mt from the original old maid schoolteacher for $200, It ran beautiful but the original flat head engine smoked badly and used 22 quarts of oil from St. Regis to Great Falls. I told my dad i was going to put a corvette engine in it. He said I'd never get it done. Dad was a bootlegger inTennessee in the twenties and had hopped up cars. I secretly put a Chevy V8 engine in it between 1957 and 1958. I picked up my dad one day to go play pool: he was amazed to see I had done the engine swap. Instead of playing pool we took his new 58 Ford and raced it against my 36, My 36 won so dad said "son if you ever sell that car promise to sell it to me" I promised. By the next year Dad had passed away so the car has never been for sale. It still isn't. It is all original except for the engine, wheels and I finally got a new interior. I love it
