On Friday, January 15, and Monday, January 18, the seventh and eighth graders at Zurich School took part in a wonderful photography workshop. This unique opportunity was offered as a class project by Missoula senior, Forest Chaput de Saintonge. The students were taught how to use digital SLR cameras. Instruction included camera settings, exposure, terms, lenses, composition and computer enhancement. Each student was then given a camera for the weekend to try their hand at creating a photo essay of themselves as well as personal artistic choices to be shared and critiqued. Students were also given the task to write a script to go with their pictures.
Forest’s senior project was extended in Chinook when he offered the community service portion of his project to the Blaine County Wildlife Museum. He spent his weekend taking pictures to put together a brochure for the museum. Monday provided an entertaining and informative session as photographs and writings were shared and enjoyed by all. The highly skilled Chaput has been working with cameras since he was seven as parents, Jeanne and Neil Chaput de Sanitonge, own and operate the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula. The Zurich junior high students, as well as their teacher, are very grateful for this incredible experience.
